We all have it. That song that we like to sing but shouldn’t. You know what I’m talking about? The song may be a huge hit or totally unknown to the masses but regardless, the lyrics make no sense coming out of your mouth.
For example, I have a friend who has a favorite tune that he should never, ever be caught singing. The tune? Shania Twain’s “Man, I feel like a woman.” It’s hysterical to listen to him sing it. No, it’s not me but keep reading.
My favorite? I have a few dumb songs but my favorite has got to be Elvis’ Only Fools Rush In. There’s nothing wrong with the tune and it’s not like I’m stuck in my youth (I think it was released before I was even born) but get this, I only sing it when I’m mowing my back yard. I have no idea but I think I sing it every time. I’ve got others: Sheryl Crow’s Soak Up the Sun is high on my list and I have to admit that Taylor Swift’s You Belong With Me is threatening to sneak out of me at any moment. If Kate catches me singing and records it, I’m ruined!

I make up songs that I sing to my pets about how we’re “Goin’ for a Ride”, “No More Knots” while being groomed, or the all time favorite “Supper is a’Coming”…. those are very silly and shouldn’t be heard outside of the 4 walls of my house!

I’m one of those people who constantly has a song running through my head.You can say just about anything to me, and I will start singing some stupid song with those words in the lyrics….drives my kids nuts! For example: You say, can you “help me”, I blurt out “Help me Rhonda, help,help me Rhonda”. Jon says to his sister, “don’t touch me!”, I start singing…”can’t touch this, dun,dah,nah nun…dah nun…dah, nun…can’t touch this!” LOL….I’ve got issues, I know!!! LOL

Somehow I find myself either singing or whistling to one of the songs from the Wizard of Oz (If I Only Had A Brain). Now this confession leaves me feeling a bit vulnerable so please be kind. When it dawns on me what I’m singing, I ask myself, “why are you singing this?” Honestly, I think it’s just a catchy melody. I hope that’s the reason!
